The rudest question
A conversation with my cousin earlier this week prompted quite a bit of thinking around this topic. There is a bad habit amongst Utahns, LDS and non-LDS alike, to ask the following question:
“Are you Mormon?”
As my cousin put it, when a person asks you this question they are trying to fit you into their narrow minded view of the world.
Next time you have the urge to ask this question, I insist you instead get to know the person for who they really are. Don’t base your judgment of that person on their religious preference.
The divide in this state is too great as it is and is quite sad. Both sides are responsible for the problem… each of us can take small steps to correct it.
I like to always keep in mind the philosophy “What is right for me, isn’t right for you.” Diversity and differences are what make the world interesting.
Update: The cousin I refer to is Jenn Gonnelly. She is also an amazing cook and some of her recipes can be found here: http://cafegonnelly.blogspot.com/
